Board of Directors
The Tamar's Voice Board is a talented group of women and men who share a passion for ministering to those who have experienced clergy sexual abuse. The Board of Directors is comprised of individuals who have personally experienced clergy sexual abuse, or are family or friends of survivors who support Tamar’s Voice and its mission.

Jan Tuin, Executive Director
Board Members:
Judy Huffman, Ph.D
An ordained Pastor of Congregational Life at College Wesleyan Church in Marion, Indiana. She served as dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana Wesleyan University before she joined the church staff. Although she placed her Marriage and Family Counseling license in retirement during her time as academic dean, she plans to renew it in the coming year. She is gifted in counseling individuals and families. She has offered to be a resource advisor for Jan while Jan works directly with the women who contact Tamar's Voice.
Karen Lea, Ph.D, Webmaster
A professor of education at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, Tennessee. She is gifted with organizational skills, and this past year she led the School of Education to receive national accreditation. She was the dean of the School of Education at Olivet Nazarene University prior to moving to Nashville. She has worked hard to implement our new website and she will continue to oversee the website. She is a strong supporter of Tamar's Voice as she volunteers hours of her time to see that people who are in need of help can find us.
Cecilia Matthews, Financial Administrator
The financial administrator of Tamar's Voice. She has faithfully served Tamar's Voice in that capacity since 1997 when Jan and Lon became directors of Tamar's Voice. She works full time in her own company, Cecilia Matthews Consulting Group, L.L.C., where she works as a consultant to religious non-profit organizations. Her expertise makes it possible for Tamar's Voice to fulfill all the financial aspects of a nonprofit 501(c)3. She lives in Irvine, California.
Roy Matthews, M.A., Editor
The editor of the printed publications of Tamar's Voice. He has been involved in the ministry since 1997 when Jan and Lon assumed directorship of Tamar's Voice. He has diligently pored through volumes of published materials of the Tamar Talk newsletters as well as other printed materials that have gone forth in the thirteen years of the ministry. Before he became a public high school teacher, he worked as an editor, he worked as an editor in a publishing house. He is now retired and lives in Irvine, California.
Patricia Scheffers, M.A.
Has served on Tamar's Voice board since 2005. She is an elementary teacher in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Pat has experience with clergy sexual abuse both personally and in her work with others who have been abused. She serves on her denomination's regional abuse and prevention team and has become a leader in coming alongside women who are hurting. She is a compassionate asset to Tamar's Voice.
Jon Tuin, Ed.D
A high school principal in Illinois. He has a keen understanding of how a leader holds great responsibility. Jon understands how the dynamics of clergy sexual abuse is an abuse of power. He is the son of Jan and Lon, consequently the betrayal by his pastor had a profound effect on him. He has been on Tamar's Voice board for several years and he and his wife have always been strong supporters of Tamar's Voice.
Lon Tuin, M.A., Secretary
Served as co-director of Tamar's Voice form 1997 - 2008. He continues to be involved in many of the behind-the-scenes tasks of keeping the organization running smoothly. He takes care of all mailings other materials. He is secretary of the Board of Directors as he keeps filed and mailed and documents organized. He is a retired high school counselor which contributes to his understanding of how clergy sexual abuse is ultimately an abuse of power.
