Can We Talk?
Are you wishing you had someone to talk with? Are you wishing there was someone to talk with that you knew would understand? Are you wishing someone would listen? Are you wishing you could talk with someone confidentially?
Feel free to email me at jan@tamarsvoice.org. I am not a therapist but I am a survivor of clergy sexual abuse and I understand what you are going through. I am here to listen, let you know you are not alone, and encourage you with hope. I have been the director of Tamar’s Voice for 13 years and have had years of experience in empathizing with those who have suffered the trauma of sexual abuse by a member of the clergy.
My book, What About Her?, under my pen name Beth Van Dyke, is my personal story of surviving clergy sexual abuse. You can get more information on how to receive a complimentary copy of the book if you desire. You can read more about it on the What About Her? page in this website.
We are happy to have Judy Huffman, Pastor of Congregational Life at College Wesleyan Church (my church home) on our board. I consider her the heart of our church. She is a compassionate trained therapist and she understands the dynamics of clergy sexual abuse and how it devastates lives. She has made herself available to me as a resource for guidance when the need arises. Because we are aware of your sensitive trust issues, it would be with your permission only, that I would bring your story to Judy.
Lack of trust is a huge factor in victim/survivors of clergy sexual abuse. We guard your confidentially. The only time we would have to report your situation to a professional, is if you are suicidal or if you or your children’s lives are in danger.
We do encourage you to seek professional help from a licensed therapist, counselor, or psychologist and not consider our support as a replacement for professional services.
